UXR for Caregivers, Proxies, and Advocates

Many people navigate systems on behalf of someone else: a child, parent, spouse, disabled person, patient, student, client, or person who cannot safely or practically act alone.

These relationships create distinctive burdens involving consent, authority, records, privacy, repetition, handoffs, and the preservation of another person's agency.

Proxy Agency

A caregiver or advocate may act with delegated authority while still preserving the affected person's choices, understanding, dignity, and control wherever possible.

Proxy Friction

Systems often require the third party to prove authority repeatedly, navigate inconsistent privacy rules, carry records between departments, coordinate appointments, reconstruct history, and absorb delays that affect both people.

What UXR Should Eventually Support

• Clear consent and authority pathways
• Multi-person record continuity
• Granular permissions and revocation
• Accessible evidence sharing
• Safe escalation and resolution knowledge
• Recognition of caregiver time and administrative labor
• Protection against replacing the affected person's agency with institutional convenience

Current Limits

UXR does not yet operate a live intake or advocacy service. This page identifies an audience and design requirement that future intake, evidence, continuity, and reform systems must support.
