For Social Workers and Case Managers
If you work with families who are struggling to pay for a pet’s care, you can send them one link. It’s free, needs no account, and is written for someone who is worried and reading on a phone.
The link to text
It opens a short page with three choices: care right now, help with the vet bill, and help in their state. You don’t need to register or tell us anything about the family.
A ready-to-copy text message
Tap and hold, or select the text, to copy it. Fill in the brackets first.
Shorter version, for a chat window or a sticky note:
What families will find there
- Urgent care first. Emergency warning signs adapted from the AVMA, and two 24-hour pet poison hotlines with their published fees (Find Care).
- Help with vet bills. Grants, payment plans and fundraising, sorted by situation: before the first visit, with an estimate in hand, or for ongoing costs (Paying for Care).
- Programs in every state. Veterinary school hospitals, lower-cost clinics, vet-bill help, spay/neuter and pet food programs for all 50 states and Washington, D.C. (Find Care by State). Southern California is covered clinic by clinic.
- Everyday help. Pet food and supplies, lower-cost and spay/neuter care, and end-of-life care with aftercare costs.
- A free fundraiser option. Families can start a fundraiser with no setup or design fees. Nothing goes public until they approve it.
Help My Pet doesn’t collect families’ details, assess pets or promise funding. It points people to programs and tells them what to ask.
How listings are checked
Every listing shows how far it has been checked and the date. There are three levels:
- Checked on official website: we read the provider’s own current site and took the details from it.
- Verified with 2 sources: the provider’s site and an independent record agree, such as a state license, a government or 211 listing, or a professional directory.
- Confirmed by provider: someone at the organization reviewed the listing.
To be plain about where things stand: most state listings are at the first level, Checked on official website. We checked 336 state programs on their own sites in October 2026 and have started asking those organizations to confirm their listings. Funding and application windows change quickly, so please encourage families to call before they travel or apply. Read how we check resources.
Report a missing or outdated program
You often hear first when a program pauses, runs out of funds or changes who it serves. Tell us what changed, which listing it affects and where we can verify it. We check official information before updating a listing. Please don’t include a family’s personal details.
The printable handout
For a front desk, exam room or intake folder, there’s a one-page referral handout: For Veterinary Teams. It prints cleanly without the site menu.
