Worried your pet needs urgent care? Call your veterinarian or a local emergency veterinary hospital now and describe what is happening. Ask where to go and tell them if cost is a barrier. Help My Pet cannot assess your pet or arrange emergency treatment.
Find a veterinary practice
Search AAHA’s accredited animal-hospital directory to find a practice. The directory covers accredited hospitals; it is not a list of every clinic or a guarantee of emergency availability. Call the practice to confirm services, opening hours and whether it can see your pet.
Look for lower-cost services
View our Pet Help Finder resource. Choose “Veterinary Services” and enter your city or ZIP code. Confirm what a listing offers, its costs and eligibility before traveling.
In Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo County, view our C.A.R.E.4Paws resource. These are scheduled local services; check the program and appointment requirements.
What to ask when you call
- “My pet is having this problem. Can you assess them, and how soon?”
- “If you cannot see my pet, which nearby clinic should I call?”
- “What should I bring, what is the initial cost, and when is payment due?”
- “Do we need a specialist or referral, and can you help arrange it?”
