Custom Printing: What to Expect

From Your Idea to Your Finished Order

1. Tell us what you have in mind. Send your artwork or a reference image, what you'd like printed, the quantity, sizes, and when you need it. An idea is enough to start the conversation.
2. Confirm the details. Before printing, we'll confirm the artwork, item details, print size and placement, price, and timing with you. Include your event date or deadline so we can plan around it.
3. Choose how to supply your items. Use our garment stock, let us order blanks, or arrange to drop off your own items or have them shipped directly to Minty Tees.
4. Collect your finished order. We'll let you know when it's ready. Local cabinet pickup is available day or night.

Turnaround & Printing Methods

Standard turnaround is 2 to 5 business days once we have both your print-ready artwork and the garments to print on. Timing within that range depends on our current workload and the number of garments in your order.

Garments may come from our stock, be dropped off or shipped to us, or be ordered for you. If we're waiting for garments to arrive or artwork to be prepared, that time is additional to the printing turnaround. We'll confirm the schedule for your order, including any event date or deadline.

Most printing is done with direct-to-film (DTF) printing. Prefer another option? Direct-to-garment (DTG) printing is available on request and requires several additional days. We'll confirm the timing for your chosen method when arranging your order.

Have another item in mind? The printable area needs to fit our flat heat press or hat press, and the material needs to withstand the heat used for printing. Text a photo, the material, and the item's dimensions so we can confirm suitability and placement before you bring it in or have it shipped to us.

Bring Your Own or Ship Directly to Minty Tees

You can supply your own garments and other suitable items. Drop them off, or order them yourself and have the supplier ship directly to us, saving you a trip. Text the item details first so we can confirm the printing plan and delivery address.

Artwork Files for a Great Print

Best: Original Vector Artwork

Send an SVG or the original native vector file if your design was created as vector artwork. Vector designs stay sharp when resized. Please send the original file rather than a screenshot.

Don't convert a non-vector image to vector just to submit it. Saving a photo or PNG inside an SVG doesn't make it vector artwork, and automatic tracing can change the design. Send the best original you have.

Next Best: A High-Resolution PNG

For PNG and other pixel-based images, aim for 300 dpi at the actual size you want printed, meaning 300 pixels per inch. A 10-inch-wide by 12-inch-tall print needs a 3000-by-3600-pixel image. Original vector artwork doesn't need a dpi setting.

Use a transparent background if you don't want a background printed. Send the original full-resolution file rather than a screenshot or a copy downloaded from social media. Simply increasing the dpi setting or enlarging a small image doesn't restore missing detail. Include your desired print dimensions and keep an editable copy of your artwork; for vector files with text, convert the lettering to outlines in the copy you send.

If you don't have a suitable vector file or PNG, send what you have. Minty Tees may be able to recreate the image or professionally convert it to vector for an additional fee. We'll review the artwork and quote any preparation work before proceeding.

Print Sizes, Made Simple

A print's size is the measurement of its longest side, whether that's its width or its height. The other side scales proportionally to keep your artwork's original shape.

The maximum print size is 15 inches wide by 19 inches tall (15″ × 19″). We'll confirm the design fits the printable area of your garment or item.

For example, a men's small normally gets a 9-inch print and a men's medium gets a 10.5-inch print. On that medium shirt, a wide design would be 10.5 inches wide; a tall design would be 10.5 inches tall.

Standard Print Sizing by Garment Size

These are our usual print sizes when you haven't requested different dimensions. Every measurement is the longest side of the printed design, in inches. We'll confirm a different size if that's the look you want and it fits the item.

Pocket-size prints are up to 4 inches on the longest side.

Print Placement That Works for You

For standard front or back garment prints, the top of the design starts approximately 3 inches below the collar. On the back of a hoodie, it starts approximately 6 inches below the collar. These defaults apply unless you request a different placement.

Want the print higher, lower, or somewhere else? Include that in your instructions before printing. For hats, bags, and other items, we'll agree on dimensions and placement to suit the printable area.

Small-Run Prices & Quantity Quotes

The prices below are for low-quantity print runs. Ordering more garments at once earns quantity discounts and lower per-print pricing. The quantity breaks and savings depend on the details of your project, so larger runs are quoted individually. Garment printing is priced by the number of inches on the design's longest side. Each price below is per print, for printing only. The blank garment is separate, so you can bring your own or have Minty Tees supply it.

More Print Locations, More Value

Add two or more print locations to the same garment, such as the front and back, and every print on that garment gets the lower rate. At the small-run prices shown below, that's $2.50 off each print.

Locations are counted on each garment. Use the size of each individual print to find its price. Pricing for larger quantities of garments is quoted separately.

Example: A 12-inch back print is $11.00 and a 4-inch front print is $5.50 when both are on the same garment. That's $16.50 for the printing, plus the garment if we supply it.

For hats and other items, send the details so we can confirm the printing approach and quote. Your order quote will cover the printing and any applicable item costs, artwork preparation, or shipping.

Pay with Zelle or Venmo, or use a credit card with additional processing fees. We'll confirm your total, including any card fees, before you pay.

A Local Workshop With Pickup on Your Schedule

Minty Tees operates from a home workshop in Covina. Lower overhead helps keep costs down, while working directly with the owner keeps your order personal.

A large plastic cabinet by the front door makes drop-offs and pickups simple. Once your drop-off is arranged or your finished order is confirmed ready, you can use the cabinet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There's no need to fit your visit into business hours.

Text Minty Tees first for the address and cabinet instructions. For an item too large for the cabinet, we'll arrange the handoff with you.

Keep Your Print Looking Great

The DTF prints we use at Minty Tees last approximately 40 to 50 machine washes with proper care.

For washable printed garments, turn them inside out, wash cold with mild detergent, and air-dry or tumble-dry on low if the garment and decoration allow it. Avoid excess detergent, overdrying, bleach, fabric softener, and ironing directly on the design.

These are good everyday care habits for decorated garments from any seller, wherever you bought them. Check both the garment label and the decorator's instructions. Embroidery and specialty decorations may need different care.

Bring printed garments indoors instead of storing them in a hot car or trunk for days. Having a shirt in the car during one workday is different from leaving it in the trunk for a week. A parked car in the sun can become very hot, and prolonged heat can shorten print life and weaken the bond of transfer prints such as DTF and vinyl. This is general storage advice for DTG, DTF, screen printing, vinyl, and other printed garments from any seller. Stitched embroidery does not have a print bond to weaken.
